Classic Hip Hop

I think a resurgence of Classic Hip Hop is around the corner.

At one point, rock music was just rock music. Then, a few decades pass, and the Beatles became 'Classic Rock,' and so do a cohort of other bands. Similarly, there was once hip hop (Kurtis Blow, Rakim, A Tribe Called Quest), and there will soon be a day when we refer to this generation as Classic Hip Hop.

Important to note is that, distinct from Classic Rock, Classic Hip Hop has an extremely important fashion component. Where Classic Rock was ripped jeans and a white t-shirt, Classic Hip Hop was a collection of fashion statements, including footwear.

It's a movement that's undeniably coming, and the question becomes 'what company is going to capitalize on it?' And, is there even an existing company positioned to properly capitalize on it?

It feels ripe for a disruptive startup. A company that focuses on these Iconic artists of the past, and sets the stage for a fashion movement that's around the corner. Established companies don't service this niche-- Nike, Adidas, Puma, etc.

And, culturally, it's an area that calls for a company that fully understands the hip hop culture.
